It is only a short drive south to Rotorua and it is recommended to travel via the corrugated town of Tirau.

Arrival Rotorua

The moment of arrival in Rotorua is somehow quite different. There is a scent of sulphur in the air. At the nearby geothermal hotspots, there are spouting geysers, mud pools bubbling and warm geothermal pools and ponds that create a kaleidoscope of colour. Rotorua is also the heartland of New Zealand’s Maoridom and the warm spirit of this living culture will captivate and enthral.

Today visit Te Puia Geothermal Reserve to view the boiling mud pools and cascading Pohutu geyser and see local Maori carvers in action. (11.00 -1200 pm)

Visit the Rainbow Springs Kiwi Wildlife Park where hundreds of brown and rainbow trout can be seen. Next, travel onto the (1.15-2.15 pm)

QUEENSTOWN WANAKA Approx. travel time 2 hours

There are two driving routes available for travelling between Queenstown and Wanaka. The shortest route to Wanaka is over the Crown Range Road (approximately 1 hour). This route must always be checked for access during the winter months.

Via the more conservative and longer route, enjoy a pleasant scenic drive following the Shotover and Clutha Rivers
